WASHINGTON—President Trump’s trade team is readying its plan B. The administration’s tariff strategy was undermined when a court this week found it was illegal for Trump to impose sweeping duties by using emergency economic powers.

The Trump administration is considering temporary tariffs of up to 15% on various global goods for 150 days, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. This consideration arises after a trade court ruled that Trump exceeded his authority with previous tariff strategies.

President Trump announced Friday his administration would be doubling tariffs on steel imports from 25 percent to 50 percent during a visit to Pennsylvania focused on boosting the U.S. steel industry.
