Connolly will be the country's 10th president, taking over from Michael D Higgins who has served the maximum two terms in office

Catherine Connolly has won Ireland's presidential election by a landslide, official results on Saturday showed.

“I will be a president who listens, who reflects and who speaks when it’s necessary. Together we can shape a new republic that values everybody,” Connolly said in a speech at Dublin Castle.
