Russian President Vladimir Putin led celebrations marking 80th anniversary of the end of World War II with a parade in Moscow's Red Square of 11,000 troops, with World War II-era T-34 tanks alongside advanced weaponry.

Russia is marking the 80th anniversary of Victory Day as a few dozen leaders fly in to watch and meet with Putin. Victory day has become an opportunity for Russia to try to frame the Ukraine war in the same light as the second world war.

It says Russia has launched thousands of attacks since the truce came into force, Russia denies this and has accused Kyiv of hundreds of violations. The BBC's Steve Rosenberg reports from the Moscow's Red Square.

Russia will on Friday parade combat drones that its forces use in Ukraine on Moscow's Red Square, state TV reported, saying it was a first. Russian state TV's Channel One said the Lancet drone and the Geran-2 drone would be among those shown off in the parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies over Nazi Germany.

A drone hit a government building in Belgorod, Russia, according to local authorities. They report that the deputy governor and a Rosgvardiya officer were injured. A video of the attack appeared online.
