Tropical Storm Humberto forms in the Atlantic as Hurricane Gabrielle takes aim at the Azores
Forecasters say a hurricane warning has been issued for the Azores as Hurricane Gabrielle races across open Atlantic waters on track for the volcanic archipelago.
The rain’s arrival overnight came as predicted along the Central Coast in Monterey and San Benito counties. Remnants from a tropical storm in the southern Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico has sent remnants of moisture north since late last week, and that moisture has mixed with higher pressure up north that’s been responsible for the heat.
After such severe loss and destruction, this tight-knit community has transitioned into a new normal, one marked by recovery and healing.
At 5 p.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 390 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the system is moving to the northwest at 12 mph.
There could be two named tropical storms just off the Atlantic coast by late September, with both capable of bringing impacts to the Caribbean, Bahamas and the southeastern U.S. by late September.
