The race for West Palm Beach mayor has begun — more than two years before the election. West Palm Beach Commissioner Christina Lambert filed this week to run for the seat held by term-limited Mayor Keith James.

Lambert just launched a campaign to succeed term-limited West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James in March 2027. She’ll have company. Palm Beach County Commissioner Gregg Weiss, whose term ends in 2026, confirmed he’s also seeking the job.

Christina Lambert announced her candidacy for Mayor of West Palm Beach on Tuesday, a news release says. She was joined by over 140 leaders from the local chamber, business community, non-profits, members of a faith community, education leaders, women's and LGBTQ+ organizations, elected officials and West Palm Beach residents.

The battle to be mayor of West Palm Beach began Tuesday, with two candidates throwing their hats into the ring. But the election isn't until March 2027, more than two years away. Why so early?
