While schools, government and banks are closed on New Year’s Day, most major retailers across the U.S. will be open, with many offering discounts on older inventory to clear the way for newer products.

Whole Foods store hours vary by location, but generally, stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Walmart stays open every day of the year except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. That means on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, you should expect the regular hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Most major retailers and grocery stores will be open on New Year's Eve, although some will have reduced hours.
