People living in the impacted areas are urged to monitor local weather forecasts as conditions can change rapidly.

The snow fell in the Italian Alps on Thursday, as often happens in February in these parts. Sideways, downwards, into squinting eyes; gloveless hands turning blue, heads into coats as if they were tortoise shells. It wasn’t quite the weather for penguins, the temperature a mere 21 degrees Fahrenheit (-6 Celsius), but it was cold enough.

As Northern Nevada continues to dig out of the last snowstorm, forecasters are seeing another wave or two on the horizon.

Several cities in northeastern Minnesota picked up more than 20 inches of snow. A little more could be on the way.
