The final three rounds of the N.J. boys tennis state singles and doubles tournaments will take place this weekend.

Bermudian tennis player Daniel Phillips was eliminated from the singles draw but advanced in the doubles bracket at the M15 Kayseri tournament in Turkey. In the singles quarter-finals, second seed Maxwell McKennon of the United States defeated Phillips in straight sets.

Jack Barnes and Quynh Tran advanced all the way to the final Thursday in Claremont, before falling to the top seeds from Palos Verdes Peninsula.

PARIS (AP) — Turkish player Zeynep Sönmez retired from a women's doubles match at the French Open after she was injured falling over an advertising board near the back of the court on Friday. Sönmez was chasing down a ball during a point and escaped with only minor injuries but demanded the boards be removed.

The outcome of the Upper Peninsula Finals in Division 1 boys tennis boiled down to results of the No. 2 doubles championship match Wednesday at Westwood High School. Marquette junior Bode Helman and Connor Dunn put the finishing touches on a perfect season with a 6-0,

Top-seeded Haydn Lee and Hugh Weldon of Delbarton and Pingry’s second-seeded Suvid Bordia and William Zhou-Zheng each won their way into the final round of doubles. Delbarton survived for a 6-2, 1-6, (11-9) victory against West Windsor-Plainsboro South’s 5-8-seeded Pavan Buddhidinesh and Richard Hao.

Before doubles play began, the Goffstown High School boys tennis team had won its second straight NHIAA Division II title and 34th straight match. The Grizzlies completed their 16-0 season by earning a 6-3 victory over second-seeded Hollis-Brookline — the same score as last year’s final between the programs.
