The National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. Tuesday advisory reported that Category 4 Hurricane Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 220 miles east of Bermuda and 1,945 miles west of the Azores. With maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, the hurricane is moving northeast at 13 mph.
Hurricane Gabrielle has rapidly gained strength over the past 24 hours, becoming a Category 3 hurricane on Monday morning. The storm, which strengthened into a hurricane on Sunday afternoon, is expected to become even more powerful as it tracks eastward over the Atlantic Ocean in the coming days.
