Florida Republican Gov_ Ron DeSantis’ administration is preparing to open a second immigration detention facility at a state prison in north Florida.

The second detention center will support the “Alligator Alcatraz” facility opened in South Florida in early July, state officials said.

Florida is preparing to hold immigrant detainees at a new detention facility in a remote, northern part of the state, the second since the makeshift detention center dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” opened in the Everglades just over a month ago.
