Gov. Tim Walz on Monday directed the Minnesota National Guard to respond to northern Minnesota as two major wildfires burn thousands of acres in St. Louis County, forcing residents to evacuate.

The National Weather Service says high temperatures and low dewpoints will continue on Wednesday and create an environment favorable for the growth of the current fires and any others that might form.
