The Los Angeles Unified School District is preparing to keep students and their families safe regardless of their immigration status As immigration enforcement operations continue across the area, LAUSD wants students and their families to know their campus is a safe space and their immigration status will never be a barrier to their education.

Los Angeles Unified School District saw a record first-day turnout Thursday, Aug. 14, despite community fears over recent immigration raids, with preliminary attendance 2% higher than last year, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said.

A group of teachers, in collaboration with the community organization Union del Barrio, is launching "teacher patrols" to protect students from potential ICE raids.
