Part of Herald Square’s holiday market was left in smoldering ruins Monday when a blaze ripped through several booths, leaving one firefighter seriously injured. The fire broke out around 4 a.m., igniting a swath of the festive shopping corridor on Broadway between West 35th and West 36th Streets just after 4 a.

A fire ripped through vendors' booths at the Herald Square Holiday Market on Monday, charring the holiday spirit of more than a dozen small businesses and sending a firefighter to the hospital. Parts of the 34th Street and 35th Street sections of the market were able to open as normal Monday afternoon.

The fire occurred around 4 a.m. Monday, was quickly contained, and only hit stalls outside the flagship, which opened as usual.
