The World Meteorological Organization Hurricane Committee has retired the names Beryl, Helene, Milton, and John from its hurricane name lists due to the significant death and destruction these storms caused in 2024.

The World Meteorological Organization is retiring the name "Helene" from hurricane name list. The agency is also striking "Milton" and "Beryl" from its list.

When a storm is particularly powerful, destructive or deadly, the name is "retired" from the rotating list, meaning it will never be used again.
