Sega has so far not done a good job in creating 3D 'Sonic' games. Fans gave it a try, and created what is arguably the best 3D 'Sonic' experience available to fans of the franchise.
Iizuka-san: You can make lots of discoveries and enjoy 3D Sonic action on the game's open zone islands. However, they also contain traditional Sonic-style high-speed linear action stages.
Sega aims to release 2D Sonic games alongside the 3D ones each year, but it's questionable how the company plans to continue this trend.
Recent tweets indicate that Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto would like to make a game in the style of Sonic Adventure.
"We would like to try and challenge to create a new 3D Sonic game, and if we try and make a new 3D Sonic game, it will be different to Sonic Generations," he said.
