KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - After falling 2-0 in the doubles portion of Sunday’s ITA Kickoff Weekend final, Tennessee could only win a single singles match against 25th-ranked Michigan. The Wolverines advanced to the ITA indoor championships, while the 14th-ranked Volunteers fall to 4-3 on the season.

The No. 25 Michigan men’s tennis team’s dominance at the ITA Kickoff Tournament set a strong precedent for the Wolverines’ upcoming season, advancing them to the ITA Indoor National Championships. Saturday’s win against Auburn left the team’s confidence high.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The No. 14 Tennessee men’s tennis team defeated Illinois, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in the opening round of ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Vols dropped the doubles point, but the singles part of the match was filled with some intense competition.

Michigan (14-5, 6-2), which plays host to Penn State on Monday night, dropped from the Top 25 after losing its lone game last week, 91-64 at then-No. 11 Purdue. The Wolverines lead the vote-getters outside of the Top 25.

Auburn's Tahaad Pettiford was sent to the line, but he only knocked down one, giving Tennessee the ball back with 12 seconds to play. The Vols pushed to their side of the court, and Rick Barnes called a timeout to set up the final play down 53-51.
