Florida is preparing to hold immigrant detainees at a new detention facility in a remote, northern part of the state, the second since the makeshift detention center dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” opened in the Everglades just over a month ago.

DeSantis justified building the center that he dubbed "Deportation Depot," by saying the Trump administration needs the additional capacity to hold and deport more immigrants.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis revealed on Thursday that state officials plan to convert Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson into an immigration processing facility. The prison is 43 miles west
