Although Superman continues to dominate the domestic box office after two weeks, the Man of Steel hasn’t translated quite the same way to international audiences. Director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently commented on the movie’s international haul of $173 million,

James Gunn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he remains somewhat confused over the conservative backlash that erupted before the release of “Superman.” Fox News and other right-wing outlets branded the movie “SuperWoke” after Gunn went viral for telling the Times of London that Superman is an "immigrant" and "the story of America.

James Gunn isn't letting the "SuperWoke" right wing criticisms bring his "Superman" down. The writer/director, who is also the co-head of DC Studios, told Rolling Stone that the superhero film has reached success at the international box office despite rising "anti-American sentiment [s]" worldwide.
