Bangladesh's interim government has accused energy supplier Adani Power of breaching a multi-billion-dollar agreement by withholding tax benefits that a power plant central to the deal received from New Delhi,

A multi-billion-dollar deal with Adani Power, one of India's biggest energy companies, is causing major concerns for Bangladesh's interim administration, which is headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.

Bangladesh accuses Adani Power of breaching a contract by withholding tax benefits. The deal involves power supply from Adani's plant and faces scrutiny against political and financial backgrounds. Bangladesh seeks renegotiation citing domestic capacity and unresolved payments while a court investigates the arrangement.

Reuters reviewed 19 state government documents, many of them previously unreported, and interviewed more than two dozen state and federal officials about the deal, as well as independent energy and legal professionals.

Bangladesh has accused the Gautam Adani-led company of not passing on tax benefits related to a power plant critical to the deal.

Bangladesh plans to reopen the 25-year deal and hopes to leverage the fallout of the US indictment in a $265 million bribery scheme to press for a resolution. Adani Group had denied the charges and called them baseless.
