The American Civil Liberties Union is suing Gov. Ron DeSantis for not calling special elections for state House and Senate seats.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Thursday accusing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of failing to fulfill his constitutional obligation to call special elections for two seats in the state House and Senate.

It’s widely known that Gov. Ron DeSantis is open to the idea of a special session to help resolve the condo affordability crisis. However, the governor is also open to the idea of state lawmakers doing more before the yearly scheduled session starts.

Ron DeSantis of violating “his mandatory statutory duty,” the American Civil Liberties Union on Thursday filed a lawsuit asking a judge to order DeSantis to set special elections for two legislative seats that opened as part of a political shakeup after President-elect Donald Trump’s win in November.
