One week after the controversy developed, the NWSL has addressed its decision to continue the Utah Royals’ game against Angel City FC on May 9 following an on-field medical scare involving a player.

The National Women’s Soccer League said Friday that a game between Angel City and the Utah Royals should not have continued after defender Savy King collapsed on the field and had to be hospitalized.

The NWSL released a statement saying King "left the field in stable condition" and was "responsive" upon arriving at California Hospital Medical Center. After being transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she was diagnosed with a heart abnormality and underwent surgery to correct the issue. Her prognosis was described as "excellent."
