The longtime pastor of the Auburn University football team died Sunday after falling into the water on Lake Martin in central Alabama.

Rev. Chette Williams, the Auburn football team chaplain for the last 26 seasons, drowned in Lake Martin on Sunday.

The SEC led the country in ranked teams once again with eight teams making the AP Poll. Apart from Tennessee and Auburn, the SEC teams who checked into the top 25 this week: No. 4 Kentucky (+1), No. 6 Alabama (+1), No. 7 Florida (+2), No. 12 Texas A&M (+5), No. 14 Oklahoma (-1), No. 17 Ole Miss (+2).

After a dominant 91-53 win over Ohio State on Saturday, Auburn men’s basketball remained the No. 2 team in the AP Poll. The Tigers received 12 first place votes but came second behind Tennessee for the second week in a row. The Volunteers played twice during the previous week, beating Miami and Illinois.

The Volunteers received 50 first-place votes from the national media panel after improving to 10-0 for only the fifth time in school history. Auburn picked up nine first-place votes from last week and had 12 total.

Auburn defensive lineman Trill Carter is recovering from a gunshot wound he suffered last week, The Charlotte Observer and The Athletic first reported.

An Auburn football player was shot last week in Charlotte, North Carolina, per ESPN. Defensive lineman DeAngelo ‘Trill’ Carter was shot in the chest around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday. The shooting happened in a parking lot on East 6th Street in uptown Charlotte.
