Carter Verhaeghe scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and had an assist for the Florida Panthers, who recovered for a 6-5 win in a back-and-forth affair against the host Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Niko Mikkola, Sam Reinhart, Jesper Boqvist, Matthew Tkachuk and Gustav Forsling also scored for the defending champion Panthers in a rematch of the Stanley Cup Final.

Jesper Boqvist scored on a short-handed breakaway to give Florida a 1-0 lead at 2:42 of the first period, beating Skinner blocker side after stealing the puck from Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard, who fell down as the Oilers won an offensive zone face-off.
