The U.S. Treasury Department Wednesday sanctioned Houthi leaders and one company for alleged weapons smuggling and procurement.

The sanctions come a day after the State Department announced it had officially implemented the designation of the Houthi movement as a "foreign terrorist organization".

The U.S. has sanctioned seven high-ranking Houthi members and a Yemeni businessman for arms smuggling and recruiting fighters for Russia’s war in Ukraine, highlighting growing ties between the Houthis and Moscow.
