South Korea’s embattled conservative party has canceled then reinstated the presidential candidacy of Kim Moon Soo within hours, after a failed attempt to replace him with former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

Lee Jae-myung and Kim Moon-soo represent the opposite sides of a country polarized over former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s use of martial law and his ouster.

South Korean presidential hopefuls Kim Moon-soo and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo clashed on Thursday during a meeting to discuss merging their campaigns in order to field a single conservative candidate to contest the upcoming election.
