Adam Sandler’s oafish pro golfer is back on screen for the first time in nearly 30 years, in a new movie that follows the titular Happy Gilmore as he attempts to get back in the game and raise his five kids after the death of wife Virginia (Julie Bowen) in a hurtling golf ball accident.
That context should frame my evaluation of Happy Gilmore 2. I am not precious about these things. I do not need, nor want, every movie to be an auteur-driven testament to the truth-telling power of filmmaking.
Many of the biggest names in golf appear in Happy Gilmore 2, including John Daly who plays himself to perfection.
"Happy Gilmore 2" has landed safely on the fairway and is now streaming on Netflix. With Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and more reprising their memorable roles in this sequel, Rotten Tomatoes has given the movie a critic Tomatometer rating of 64% and an audience Popcornmeter score of 73%.
