In need of salary cap space, the Colorado Avalanche created some on Friday by trading Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In return, the Blue Jackets traded prospect forward Gavin Brindley,

Coyle was dealt to the Avalanche at the deadline from the Boston Bruins. That package consisted of forward Casey Mittelstadt, prospect Will Zellers and a 2025 second-round pick. Coyle has one year remaining on his contract, with a $5.25 million cap hit.
