🛬 Watch a pair of Northern Royal Albatrosses plop down for a landing near the Plateau nest in New Zealand. After a brief meet-and-greet, they would mosey past the nest and head off across the headland. Calmer days can actually make landings trickier for these large birds, whose long, narrow wings are better suited for taking off and landing in strong winds. On June 12, cyclist and pilot Bryan Allen pedaled the Gossamer Albatross across the English Channel. The dream of human-powered flight was very publicly realized on that day! The Museum of Flight is home to the Gossamer Albatross II, the backup aircraft for the big day.
