I hope the light and composition will be the strongest aspects of the work, but the details are important to me, and perch without scales never quite look right . I'm frequently asked if painting is relaxing and quite often it's not at all, more a real challenge, but doing scales is very calming, with a Zen like state of meditative absorption needed, and a sense that time is immaterial....

The plan is to try and do as much as possible with one layer of direct painting on top of the Verdaccio, with glazes to follow that will augment the quality of light and develop the atmosphere. Glazes are a great help, in all sorts of ways, but always work best if the initial layers of direct painting
