Mugu Rock is a large rock formation that was formed when a 200 foot deep cut was made into the rocky ridge between October 1937 to February 1940. Prior to the modern day PCH at Mugu Rock (at the time called U.S. 101 Alternate (State Route 60)), drivers went around a 275 foot radius curve that is now fenced off. TWO PEOPLE TRANSPORTED FOLLOWING HEAD-ON PHYSICAL RESCUE CRASH ON THE PCH BY MUGU ROCK: At 3:36pm on Tuesday afternoon, August 16 of 2022, a head-on vehicle crash occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway near the Mugu Rock in South Coast. The CHP, Federal and Oxnard and Ventura County Fire Departments, and Gold Coast paramedics were dispatched to respond. Two vehicles, a silver Honda CRV and a dark colored sedan, were found in traffic lanes. At least one person was trapped as a result of the crash.
