When barn owls feel threatened, they don’t run..they perform. This eerie little dance, called toe dusting, involves lowering their head, swaying it side to side over their toes, puffing up their feathers, and letting out some serious horror-movie hisses. Unique to barn owls, toe dusting is designed to intimidate predators and make the owl appear larger and more dangerous than it actually is.
