A £1 entry fee has come into effect on Brighton's Palace Pier. The pier's operators said it is needed to cover the increasing costs of maintenance and operating the attraction, which have now reached £11.6m a year. Some Brighton and Hove residents and children under two are exempt. Annual passes costing up to £95 are also available.
