Mexican gray wolves roam the wilds of eastern Arizona and western New Mexico. With fewer than 100 of them in the wild, these wolves are one of the rarest and most endangered species on the continent. By the middle of the 20th century nearly all known wild Mexican gray #wolves were exterminated by the federal government at the behest of the cattle industry. The ABQ BioPark is proud to share that construction on the Mexican Wolf Conservation Facility, shared in April of this year, is now complete! Mexican gray wolves are one of North America's most endangered mammals and the BioPark has been a committed partner in the recovery program for decades. Because this 4.5 acre space is dedicated to rehabilitation, pre-release care, and breeding of wolves intended for release, it has been designed to minimize human contact and will not be open to the public.
